The largest print is almost 8 inches long – which by any standards is huge! I managed to take some photos of the prints and used my foot and a £5 note for scale, but I was so intrigued I returned later that evening with a tape measure to accurately gauge the size of the prints. The largest print was obviously made in softer mud, so it’s deeper, and it looks like the animal slid forward slightly as it trod - which I think has exaggerated the size slightly compared to the other prints (which were made in drier soil).

When I returned on the Wednesday with a couple of friends, the tracks had unfortunately been completely obliterated by a famer’s tractor, only deepening the mystery.

Form the little research I’ve done, I've found a mention of a Big Cat in the Cusworth area which is pretty close to Pickburn (see Cusworth Big Cat). I’m not advocating this is what made the tracks, but it’s interesting…

Monday 20th August was a beautiful summer’s day. I had some free time in the afternoon so decided to walk my Labrador around the pretty villages of Brosdworth and Pickburn, just to the North West of Doncaster.

I’m an avid walker and often ramble the seldom trod paths around here, there’s beautiful countryside and it’s a very pleasant way of spending a few hours outdoors. I made my way through Brodsworth from Hickleton and walked through the centre of Pickburn village, turning right into Doncaster Road and headed South.  On reaching the B6422, I crossed the road and headed up the farmer’s path which links to Church Road. About a third of the way up the path, I started to notice some pretty big footprints, the likes of which I’d never seen before.

About

There have been many stories regarding 'big cat' prints around the UK. I've always been skeptical of these wild beasts roaming our countryside; until one day in late August 2012…
